There's some talk of making the mound the true middle of the diamond


Right now it's 127 feet, 3 3/8 inches from home to second -- 60 feet, 6 inches to the rubber. So making it the true center would sent it back to 63 feet and about 7 1/4 inches. That's about a 5% difference. Enough to affect the interaction for sure -- but too much?

Part of the other reason for more homers, btw, is the defensive shift. Liners and ground balls that previously would have been base hits are turning into outs. So more and more players are subscribing to the "launch angle" theory so they can hit it over the shift.
