This is definitely a problem for soccer gaining broader appeal in the US


There is no characteristic we value more in our athletes than toughness. And there is no weakness we revile in our athletes more than a lack of toughness.

Flopping is one thing. But generally speaking when a football or basketball player flops to try and get a call, they just fall on the ground and look at the ref to see if it worked or not. They don't writhe around as if they had been shot by a sniper in the leg.

Feigning injury in gain a competitive advantage is about the most un-American thing an athlete could ever do.
