My humble recommendation for computer support to college students.

It appears everyone goes for a laptop over a desktop these days, so what I recommend students be equipped with from a hardware standpoint (from most to least important):

- laptop
- back up external hard drive (to backup all data files)
- full size IPS monitor (for eye relief)
- full size keyboard (To give wrist/hand relief from typing on a tiny laptop keypad)
- USB hub (so you only have one cable to plug into your laptop when you arrive home)

Buy all software from the college bookstore. They have killer deals on "student" versions of all of the productivity software, such as Microsoft Office.
