Up to you. But makes no sense at all to include tax when figuring tip.


Tax rates vary from county to county. Besides, think of tax as Uncle Sam's tip. He applies a rate to the subtotal and demands the restaurant collect it from you. You should figure the tip the same way — apply your 20% rate to the same subtotal Uncle Sam does.
