We're on our way back to Richmond from Hilton Head and decided to take our sweet time coming home. We stopped in Charleston to visit some friends, and then just drove up 17 into North Carolina. Hotel rooms were difficult to come by, so we pounced on one we found in Southport. I've never been anywhere near here before, so we didn't know what to expect. It seems like a neat little town at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. We got some dinner at a place called Yacht Basin Eatery, and the atmosphere was nice with live music and waterfront seating, although the food was incredibly overpriced (dinner for 2 adults and 1 child, plus 3 waters and a slice of key lime pie, totalled $70 with tip). But oh well. We ventured off the beaten path a little bit, discovered a new place, and the best part is - we drove exactly 0 miles on I-95 today. That's a win in my book any day.
