I think it's mostly cues


Like in Olympic weightlifting, during a power clean, it's important to keep your back upright instead of leaning forward. So your coach might just say "UP!" repeatedly, and it probably has value, because it's an easy reminder of an important point.

Similarly, I suspect most coaching in tennis from the stands is just simple cues.
