Fellow Amica customer. I like them a lot, but I can also confirm partly
what you say.
Like you, my home replacement value went up by a bit every year. Even as my home value was falling withe the 'great recession'. I had to spend a lot of time on the phone with them and pull out a few other quotes, as well as using an online tool I found for estimating the construction value of your house, but I did get them to drop it by quite a bit.
Like any insurance company, you need to benchmark them occasionally.
The one conversation that ticked me off a bit. I'm making my case about how my house has lost $100,000 in value, and if I was just buying it today, what would they think is the replacement value? I also pointed out that during this recession, there's a ton of contractors out there looking for work. How could the replacement cost be going UP?
She answered "oh, all those contractors looking for work just makes it MORE expensive, because it just means that the good ones are in higher demand and then charge more."
Huh? But, as I said, it took some effort but I succeeded.
