My kinda political, but at least non-partisan response to our current mess

WRT the elected officials we have:

It isn't good enough to get out there and vote. If you really want to change the system and heal the red vs. blue chasm in this country, get out and vote IN THE PRIMARIES.

If you wonder where the reasonable, intelligent, somewhat moderate candidates are that care more about effectively governing this country than marching the party line like good little sheep...they are on the ballot in the primaries. But they lose in the primaries because we're lucky if 10% of the electorate shows up for those elections. Which basically means it is the lunatic fringe who is picking the people we get to vote for in general elections.

I know it seems like our political system is broken beyond repair right now and the only solution is to blow it up and start over. But I actually think it can be repaired if people would actually inform themselves and show up to vote in the primaries.
