I’m not a morning person but still prefer the morning flights

The later the day goes on, the more likely you are to see a delay. That is especially true if you are flying one of the contract airlines for United or Delta. They are likely to have five or six legs in a day, with 24 minutes between landing and takeoff, so the fourth flight is a lot more likely to have some sort of delay than the first.
