I used to circle what I wanted in the catalog, then take it with me to see
Santa at the local department store. I didn't realize that "Santa" was actually my grandfather. He was a department store Santa for a number of years.
Back then, Santa would give little presents to the kids who came in to see him. My sister and I wondered a few times why Santa seemed to give us nicer presents than we saw the kids in front of us in line get.
The local news station actually did a story showing my cousins going in to visit Santa, saying that "These kids don't know it, but that's actually their grandfather in the Santa suit".
