Because the lane is open while the confused guy is in the right lane
it's a little tricky, but it works okay when one road is by far the biggest. I used to drive through a 3 lane roundabout every day and it just works; slowing down and taking your time to find your spot beats having a giant traffic light intersection that you sit at for 2 minutes.
Other slightly larger "turbo" roundabouts do it pretty well though too. They essentially spiral the inside lane to the outside. That's like the one Prices Fork and Main in Blacksburg.
