My Dad arranged a lot of music and used "Band in a Box"


which is a software program that allows you to program background music (Chord progressions, drum rhythms, etc) and then you can play along to the music. I think it would also print a "score" or put your music in sheet form. He had a big band dance band and a smaller combo and did a lot of music. Your nephew may already have a more sophisticated setup and if he does.....nevermind! But if he's just making up tunes this might be the next step short of getting into an expensive keyboard with mixer, etc
I think Band-in -a -box is available for PC and Mac
