Take Stevie Nicks. There's no question that she's one of the greatest female vocalists in history. But her best work is with Fleetwood Mac, which is already in the Hall. When you look at her solo career, I remember a couple decent pop albums from the 1980s, and then there are a few songs she did with guys like Tom Petty. But as a solo artist Stevie did not really make the impact of someone like, say, Janis Joplin, and she really wasn't as big for as long as some others who were female solo artists during the same period. Pat Benetar - who is not in the Hall - comes to mind.
