I can tell you how it usually resolves itself in the comics


In the comics Thanos is depicted as a deeply philosophical megalomaniac with an inherent flaw - he's his own worst enemy. Usually he unwittingly does something to undo his master plan. You get the feeling that he has a self-belief issue, deeply seated and not generally observable.

That said I have no clue as to how they will undo the finger snap. I do believe that all the departed souls currently reside in Soul World, a pocket universe that lies within the Soul Gem. It's the key to their all-but-eventual resurrection.
