Houston /Austin / San Antonio trip summary .

About 3 days in each.

Houston was much nicer than I thought it would be but that might be because we stayed on the west side of Houston? Nice zoo with lots of elephants and my daughters fed full size girrafes. Weather good for them compared to at northern zoos. Underwhelmed by NASA trip. The place was designed way to small. Dulles and Wash Air &Space Mueusems much better. There was a tram (1970s vehicle pic below in post) tour people waited hours for. We waited 40 minutes because we were there early. You drive through 1970s office park and look at a control room from the balcony. Underwhelming.

Drury Inns and Suites we stayed at. Breakfast and basic dinner included. And the first and last had indoor pools.

Austin wasn’t very pretty as I had expected. Not much for kids to do. Capital building was nice. Campus is ok but no Blacksburg. Thinkery (kids STET meusem was good).

San Antonio was very nice. The riverwalk was better than I thought it would be. Did not realize the Alamo was just two blocks from the riverwalk. San Antonio and Austin and Houston have amazing roads at every intersection of two highways. Amazing spaghetti. In Massachusetts where I live they waste all the money and the roads are terrible and not one nice interchange.

I am 50 and kids are 1 and nearly 4. Will plan to go to Oman again next winter when baby is older and has all her shots. I have been there three times (wife’s sister lives there and other sister in UAE and other in India). We did an epic Arizona / Vegas/ San Diego/ LA/ Yosemite / San Fran trip when 3 year old was 9 months old and trip to India / Oman/ UAE when she was nearly 2. We do no other vacations as I work a lot in the warmer months.
