Earlier in the season I agreed.
Asking three guys to drop another 8-10 lbs is much easier said than done. Cutting weight is no picnic and cutting another weight class on top of that requires incredible discipline. Another factor is that generally it also affects generally fatigue in the body and low energy levels. You can pump of for a match or two, but practices and weight training can suffer due to lower energy levels. Eventually the quality of practices will erode match performance.
Originally I was thinking Robie had us all outsmarted and was wrestling everyone up for the tougher competition only to drop them for the last 2 months of the season. Gets quality practices and matches and the wrestlers only need to hold the weight for a short period of time. I have no idea what their certified weights are....does anyone?
However, these are my thoughts on the Big 3. BC looks very strong, but not necessarily oversized for 157....it is possible he could get to 149, but the cut might be tough. Blees is a senior and starting to wrestle better...not sure if that is factoring in at all. Mekhi is incredibly strong and built like an Ox...even at 165 he looks HUGE. After watching him for the first half of the season, I just can't believe that young man has another 8 lbs to spare. Mekhi is the deal breaker for everyone dropping weights IMO. McF is lanky and tall even against some of the 174ers. He is still winning a lot -- it is nice to presume AA is a given. However, he struggles against stronger opps and gets out muscled a lot. I have really noticed it showing when he is struggling to finish a TD after getting in on a single -- he generally gets too low to the mat after shooting and has difficulty reeling in the leg/torso. McF is immensely talented, has great instincts, and is very limber -- matches of strength is his kryptonite. McF should have been in the weight room leading up to and during the season and adding 5-6 lbs muscle, but it appears that maybe he didn't.
All guess work from a computer screen and keyboard.
