The cost is competitive w/joining a gym for cycling classes but more


convenient since you can do it at home. And a lot of people like the social aspect of having a live instructor from your home.

Another approach, if you already have a bike, is to buy a smart trainer for your bike ($500-$1500 depending on what kind), and you can subscribe ($5-10/month) to some apps that will let you simulate various riding various courses, and "compete" against other riders. By "smart" trainer, it means the app will control the resistance your pedaling against, so it will simulate going up hills, etc. For instance, I could pretend to ride up Alpe d'Huez tonight, and ride the UCI World Championship course in Richmond tomorrow.
