Someone educate me on wrestling scheduling please.

I look at Will's column and I see that NC State has a record of 14-2, while VT is 8-2. They've had 6 more matches than us?

When I look at the ACC standings, I see UVA at 11-8, which is 19 matches, but Duke is 2-5, only 7 matches.

Why such large discrepancies? Do you not have to compete in at least X matches but no more than Y matches, or are you free to do as you wish as a program?

Or one possibility I've thought of, maybe the individual tournaments (Vegas, Southern Scuffle) that we participate in takes away from us scheduling a few dual meets where you get a clear team win or loss?
