For years, the only good reason for the cell phone contract was to get


a high-end phone without paying a fortune for it. The cell companies would subsidize the cost of the phone in exchange for overcharging you for the monthly service.

But they are backing off on that practice. If you want a high end phone these days, it is going to cost you. Not much point in overpaying for the service anymore.
