reading the arsenal burns like 2 tons of material in the open-air once a week. Usually Sunday Mornings. The smoke is yellow-orange. Lots of nasty stuff in the smoke too... there are maps out there of the "fallout" area, covering the immediate area... now, one say of burning might not be a big deal, but just imagine that small amount multiplied over decades.... those heavy metals eventually settle out and concentrate SOMEWHERE. The best thing they could do that would change my opinion totally is the high-temp incinerator designed to cleanly burn and scrub the waste... they use them at other plants, but not at Radford yet. They have said they allocated the money, and are working on it. Should have been done years ago... the Arsenal should be good neighbors to the valley that welcomes them.
