Nail, meet Mr. Hammer........................................
Again, I relate my story of speaking with two VTCC grad F/A-18 pilots in Lane Stadium after they had done a pre-game flyby, landed at ROA, and came back to Blacksburg. I told them that I had flown the F-4, and they said: "You flew a real fighter, we fly a computer!"
I didn't have the fancy stuff on the F-4, but I did have three channels of "Stab-Aug" (Stability Augmentation) which was kinda like a shock absorber for flight control inputs. The three channels were for the three axis of flight (Pitch, roll, and yaw). And yes, that system could malfunction and initiate flight control inputs. But, there was a "paddle switch" on the front of the stick, that all I had to do is depress is with my pinky, and it disabled the Stab-Aug system immediately, giving me time to analyze the problem, and disengage the errant channel of the stab aug system. Seems to me, something like that on the 737 Max is needed!
