They're both horrific


The early part of Pujols deal was merely bad. The last two years they've both been below replacement level, and early returns on 2019 don't give any hope that dead cats are bouncing.

In the end, the "best" contract might end up being the one where the player is so bad that they get released outright, and the team can move on to getting positive production at the position.
