What's funny is he was 3 years from his peak when they signed this deal


His best season was 2013 when he hit .286 with 53 HR, that's top tier.

The next year he hit .196 then back to .260 in 2015. I guess they figured he was back.....221, .216, .168, .000 since.

The real change that happened at that time was the big time introduction of data in the game. He's a pull hitter with big time holes in his swing. The more data there is, the more he is going to face pitches he can't hit and fielders sitting where the ball goes when he does. The Orioles were the last hold out on analytics and that can't have helped him as he didn't have the info to know what they were doing to him. Question is, can he (and will he) use the data they are starting to put together to figure out what they are doing to him and how to counteract it.
