To me the thing to be bummed about isn't the temporary...


... destruction. It's the 800+ year old craftsmanship, materials, and history that are now gone forever. I have no doubt that France will rebuild the cathedral and it will be as beautiful as ever, if not moreso. However, much of it will be shiny and new, and to me that's just not the same as having a structure that was hand built almost a millennium ago.
