although he did say winning was a function of more money. It was just that was his passion, (the only guy I would trust driving fast on the highway cuz he actually knew what he was doing - I didn't like it - but he knew what he was doing)

Raced a Renard, something smaller than a formula Ford, so yeah, local boy racer stuff. Even had the cart in our not that large rec room working on it so maybe 8' x 10" (guessing here)

It was fun going out to Summit Point, enjoying their famous chili dogs and getting a little racing in. Yeah, there was one race where well-off folks would race their near-street Porsches, fun watching them run off the track into bales of hay. Fans would jeer them by yelling "Turn your radio off"!

I want to say that Renault had a series where they would sell you a car w/a sealed engine for ~ $6000. but A) it seemed liked the racers came around the track in the same order every time - hmmm, I guess everything else being equal right? - and, of course, that cost probably doubled or trippled w/tires trailers, getting the engine checked out and re-sealed, Nomex suits etc. etc.

I may just have to go out there and watch a race this summer.
