Omg, that nest is disgusting... but seeing it makes me wonder...


The way it is spread out on this particular nest...

Do all nests eventually look like this?
Is there a reason the nest has such even distribution of fecal matter? For instance, does it keep parasites or insects away from the chicks?
Further observation of the poo would indicate each excretion starts with a white end... what is that all about? Is that white part actually a biological adaptation of some sort for some reason?
