Costco question

So a brand new Costco just opened today in my area. The wife wanted to go so we were part of the morning crowd. That place was just a complete S show inside. People stopped all over the place, carts going every which way (US side of the aisle and UK side of the aisle), and lots of slow walking with people gawking at the shelves.

Now it has been several years since I've been in a Costco, and it was opening day, and I assume there were quite a few first timers in there today. But it seems like people forgot how to shop and normal walking/cart etiquette. So was today abnormal or is Costco always like this?

On the plus side, I think I'll get my membership value just from the samples alone. The steak and kielbasa were especially good today.
