I've done a couple Fourteeners and Baldy Mt at Philmont which is 12+K

Even at Baldy a lot of kids and many adults just can't do it! Every two steps and they are gasping for air! I had one trip where I ended up with one other adult taking the remnants of three crews up to the summit after the other kids and adults bugged out. I carried all the food and water for the several that I had left.
Best of luck to her! Hopefully taking it in stages like that will give her some acclimation.
