I feel like getting a patent on a coded idea like this is a nightmare...

because searching for prior art must be ridiculously tedious... and even one mistake in the wording of the claims could jeopardize the entire claim and open it up for copy cats. Plus, code always has so many different ways to be written. What is your background? IP/Patents or Computer Science?
