I (GenX) had high school classmates that did this.


At least up until one person, likely an engineer, crafted a mailbox out of 1/4 inch plate steel welded to the top of a 4-inch diameter steel pipe filled with concrete and sunk 4-ft into the ground.

Found a broken baseball bat in his front yard one day.
