And that is the part of the minimum wage debate I always get stuck on


There are some jobs that never were and never will be intended to be a career. The kid taking tickets at the movie theater has no need to earn a living wage, the job they do isn't really deserving of it, and most people wouldn't want to pay more to go to the movies to have the satisfaction that the 16 year old tearing tickets is making $30,000/year.

But someone who works in housekeeping at a hotel or as a landscaper probably should be earning a living wage. Those aren't jobs that high school students can do working 15 hours a week.

Seems like we need a two-tier minimum wage. A minimum wage for part-time, non-career jobs and a minimum wage for full-time, career jobs. I just don't see any way that wouldn't get abused by less scrupulous employers.
