Buying a dump truck for occassional use is a loosing proposition
The tags and insurance are outrageous if you are planning to take it on public roads. You are also limited in gross weight unless you have a CDL (which comes with its own set of issues). If you pull a trailer rated for over 10,000 lbs (like to move the mini-excavator around) you'll need a Class A CDL. You might get a brake on tags, insurance and CDL if you qualify as "farm use", but you need a profit making agriculture enterprise to be a "farm".
These are prime reasons that dump trailers in the 6,000 to 9,000 lbs range that can be pulled with a heavy duty pick-up or one-ton truck have become very popular. A lot cheaper to keep the dump trailer around than a dump truck.
