As a junior at VT (my first time around) in '73 in the co-op program for

accounting (my major then). I co-oped for 6 months (winter & spring class quarters of 1973) in D.C. for the U.S. Coast Guard in the Transportation Dept. building at that time (across the street from HUD) as an auditor trainee along with other co-op students from around the country. One spring day they arranged a twin engine turboprop U.S. Coast Guard plane to fly us to the Elizabeth City (NC) Coast Guard Station and show us around the base. I remember it was a cloudy and rainy day in both D.C. and NC, but once we rose above the clouds I was amazed to see bright sunshine (duh). One of the great things about being in D.C. at that time was going to the inauguration (Charlton Heston and Ted Kennedy walked pass me on a sidewalk after Nixon's speech at the Capitol). The Trans. Dept. also gave us tickets to the Nixon Inaugural Ball at the History & Technology Building. By chance I was standing at the side door where all the dignitaries were ushered into the building and briefly met John Volpe (the Trans. Depart. head), Kissinger, Barbara Walters, Gary Collins (the actor) and got to say 'hey' to Nixon & Pat with a return nod. Also, during my co-op period in D.C., Watergate news was breaking loose and the hearings began in the spring. Yep, I managed to drop all those names into this poorly written answer essay.
