I also think the type of studio helps define whether or not it's B movie fare. Blumhouse Films for instance is famous for putting out low budget, big bang-for-the-buck productions.

I just found this breakdown of Blumhouse's film costs vs box office take and their success is truly staggering.

Total cost of Blumhouse productions: $364,041,000
Total worldwide box office: $4,432,914,128

On average, Blumhouse films take in 12.2 times more than they cost. I wanna be an investor.
