One quibble with that (but otherwise agree...sorta...maybe not)


With a development league, teams would want to be able to move players up and down at times, so restricting agents until they're "leaving for the NFL" wouldn't really work. And honestly, I don't know how teams would be able to move players up and down during a semester with classes and such.

I don't know. I guess I can see college football evolving into a semi-pro league with loose tie-ins to the college and stronger tie-ins to a specific NFL team, but that's way off. The college model is broken, and there's really no such thing as amateur college football with the money that's being slung around the conferences these days. Somedays I wish it would just move on and stop pretending with the "student-athlete" concept. Rip off the bandaid. Yes, teams would lose support of those who are determined to defend the amateur concept, but alignment with the NFL will keep them alive and supported.
