It needs to be implemented correctly
But, the idea that marijuana is a class one drug is silly. If there is a health benefit to it, and from what data we have there does seem to be some health benefits to the medicinal use of the plant, then it needs to be made legal for that reason.
There are no health benefits to alcohol and yet that has become normalized and socially accepted. I suspect that marijuana will be the same in 20-30 years.
However, the implementation of marijuana needs to be regulated just like the alcohol industry with THC levels being restricted. Sort of like how you can buy beer, wine, or hard liquor with special permits needed to sell hard liquor. I think something similar for THC or the variables of marijuana is needed.
But, the notion that the drug should be illegal is silly. People are going to do drugs. By regulating it properly you can make it safer. Just as drinking two beers with your buddies at the bar is not nearly as bad as drinking half a bottle of whisky. Not everybody wants to drink a half bottle of whisky (which is what everyone always assumes with marijuana). Some people would love to use a lower THC strand recreationally as a way to relax or have fun.
On top of that, some of the tax revenue from it needs to be reinvested into social programs to help people if they become dependent on it. There are no clear cases of marijuana addiction but it can become a habit that's hard to break.
