I've shared before or you may have heard it:
He had a prickly relationship with a particular head coach. The rules had been changed that the officials were in charge as soon as they took the field. He and the HC were inspecting the field together an hour and half pregame for pylons and other field issues.The HC asked him if "Are you [SOBs] going to call the game by the rules?," to which he threw his flag and said, "Sure will, 15 yards on the opening KO." They were the only 2 persons in the stadium. His grin was priceless. He took great pride in knowing rule application. And sticking it to that HC.
