Surprised how far back the word goes, 15th century (or longer) as a word and 17th century as a bender, I must have picked up the latter sense 40-50 years ago, It's always been in my vocabulary, kinda remember it as 60's 70s reference for getting the munchies when you've been smoking weed, eg go on a pizza jag. So maybe a cool word in the 60s.

Of course, you always have to check Urban Dictionary to find out if it is not yet another word for gay sex or something you didn't intend, they had it as an irritating person which seems in the ballpark, a person going on a bender might be irritating.
