I don't care if the coach told him to slide 12" from the bag.

Ultimately the player is responsible for his own safety. This wasn't a 7 year old kid. He was a high school player who is certainly old enough to gauge whether he has room to slide safely into a bag. If you don't have room, either don't slide, or slide wide and grab the bag with your hand. It's awful that he got injured, but it wasn't his coach's fault.

I'm sick of the current culture that says someone has to be held accountable for every random unfortunate accident that happens.
The creep of this culture into sports is startling. What's next? A left tackle being held legally responsible because he let a defensive end get by and smash the quarterback?
