Charlie and Frankie Allen recruited the heck out of him.

Out of his final 4, UNC, Kentucky, VT and UVA, Ralph end up going to the one school where he would not win a NC at. He surely would have won one at UNC or KY, and I think he would have won one at VT.

My Charlie Moir story: I graduated HS in Roanoke and drove over to talk to him about possibly playing for Roanoke College and he sort of indicated, well, if you enroll you can try out for the team (in other words, nothing financial). One look at how much RC costed ended that discussion pretty quickly.

I went to VT and became good friends with Phil Thineman who was on the team under Devoe and sometimes I would scrimmage with the team until enough guys showed up for practice.

Then Devoe left and Charlie is the VT coach and Phil and I were hanging around and, son of a gun, Charlie looked at me and said- don't I know you from somewhere? I refreshed his memory but unfortunately I was not allowed at practices as he closed the practice courts at the Cassell to the public and only the BB players were allowed (no exceptions).
