My Clark Griswold moment this year
So, Mrs. Spud and I do two Christmas trees. Hers in the living room, all white lights. Beautiful ornaments that get moved around daily until perfectly balanced and spaced.
Mine is old school. Colored blinking lights and two strands of bubble lights (I’ve cornered the market on spare bubble lights via eBay). Kids homemade ornaments and many from my childhood.
We got 7 foot trees this year instead of 8 foot. Not sure why, but we did. So I did not want to cut as much off the bottom, including branches.
Put both up yesterday. Put lights on. All good.
Decorated tonight. Finished mine and went to add water. There was a branch toward the back that was blocking easy access. Decided to cut it off as it really did not show and would add easy watering access.
Turns out, it was supporting the tree and holding the trunk above the anchoring spikes. That whole fulcrum thingy you engineering types know so well. Tree fell over on top of me. Completely trapped. Did not want to move lest all the ornaments come crashing off. Had to get a rescue from Mrs. Spud.
Ornaments everywhere. A few casualties but nothing too major.
Sigh. Glass of brown a bit stronger as I recover.
Mrs. Spud with the subtle chuckle every so often that she claims is for no reason.
