This isn't about what is good for me as much as it is about risk mitigation. Wives can be a GIANT liability.
Let's say you live in a no fault divorce state. You move up in the world and amass $10M and make $1M a year. Wife decides she is going to gain 200 lbs, become a hoarder, get addicted to crack and become a lesbian.
Any sane man would want out. You are on the hook for $5M plus probably $40K a month for life to her.
Was it worth it? Over 50% of marriages now end in divorce. I just don't see the reason for taking the risk in a community property state with no fault divorce. It's a huge liability.
