Like it or not, he was a well-known celebrity. One of those athletes whose


fame had transcended the sport. Plenty of non-basketball fans know or have heard of Kobe Bryant. That, coupled with the shocking untimely death is why it's front page news. It wasn't like he was old or sick or anything. As far as Army pilots dying, again like it or not, it's not something that's uncommon. We know people in the military are taking way more risk than your average person. So when someone in the military dies it usually is not as shocking as say Kobe Bryant being killed. I'm not going to say one deserved coverage over the other but I disagree that Kobe Bryant's death didn't deserve front page news.
