Hurricane Hugo, CLT 1989. Was still a fully-formed Cat 1 when it got here.

Not so much a beach disaster but power outages, trees down over most roads. Stores cleaned out on Day One. For weeks. The ice storm here in 2002 was no fun, either. No power for two weeks.
