Re: VPI Wrestling 1950s

The match with Maryland was postponed from an earlier date because of snow. Maryland had a strong team, we may have loss regardless, but the match was held in Blacksburg on a Monday night after dance weekend. Anyone from that time, remembers what a Monday after dance weekend was like.

Those VT teams in the '50s included several very good Granby wrestlers. However, there was a rumor that Coach Martin made a decision not to encourage his wrestlers to attend Tech, because Tech did not take it's wrestlers to the NCAA tournament.

Gray's brother went to Oklahoma, Fred Powell went to Slippery Rock, and several attended Michigan and Maryland. Charles Callahan and Ronnie Rowe are the last Granby wrestlers I remember attending Tech.
