Sounds like he shocked the pool


If you have any algae issues in the pool when it is shocked, it will definitely run the pressure up. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the pleated style filters to know whether or not they can be cleaned by backwashing or another method. That's how I lower the pressure on my DE filter.
Not sure if you were opening the pool or not but that is when they typically add a lot of chlorine or bleach.
