Round 1 to us
We finally got the pathology results from my biopsy back last week, or at least that's when the doctor was comfortable saying they were final. He had to get several pathologists to review it as there are some oddities / complexities that I don't fully understand yet, but the final conclusion is the tumor and lymph node they removed 2 weeks ago is benign!
That still leaves me with 1 tumor left to go, the one on the inside of my pericardial sac. I'm not completely out of the woods from a cancer perspective, but they now think the second tumor will likely be the same as the first. I'm still a little confused by the PET scan reading, but I rather have them think it was cancer and turn out not to be than think it wasn't and turn out to be!
They're working on scheduling the 2nd surgery for sometime in the next couple weeks. That one will hurt a little more as they have to cut straight down through my chest to get to it after lifting my left pectoral muscle out of the way. The tumor sits in a bit of a valley where 2 chambers of the heart meet, so there's a chance once they get in that they need to do a heart bypass to remove that tumor.
Just like the first surgery, my wife will get to see me for a couple minutes in the hallway as they take me from recovery to my room, but then can't see me again until I get discharged; she gets the hard part while I sleep :-)
I want to say thank you again for all the prayers and wishes; they mean a great deal!
Round 1 went to us (us 1 - Cancer zero), round 2 coming shortly
