Many were already...

Lots of big time football schools had cut many programs that schools like VT keep. I think Whit has spoken directly about this and his commitment to keep those Olympic style sports.

Clemson, if memory serves, chopped its sports programs to bare minimum about the time the were able to fund for prominence again. Effectively, growing the football slice of the pie whilst keeping the pie the same size. Then the heavy resurgence...then slams back with enough booster money - just never back with the cut sports.

I do think the likeness and player ability to make money will drastically change the CFB landscape; and not for the better. While i think there are inherent problems with the existing NCAA CFB setup - there was a semi common result of why collegiate sports became a thing - somebody with physical talent with a weaker academic background to qualify for scholarship; or lack of financial means to go to school all together; it provided another avenue to achieve a higher education. That was ages ago and the many reasons as to why the NCAA policies resulted in this aren't good hearted generally speaking - but the end was still similar.

As technological advancements have occured and the drive for money has increased - these new policies just allow the back alley bagmen to come out of the shadows; so perhaps not much actually changes.

Wow...that one kind of floated around ;p
