I would hope and assume every officer gets some training in how


to evaluate a situation, de-escalate, and peacefully resolve it wherever possible. Those will always be your first choices.

Similarly, they had better be trained how to recognize peaceful de-escalation is no longer possible, violence is required, and what level of violence is appropriate.

These are people who are have been trained in the right and wrong ways to handle situations. Experience is absolutely going to be helpful, but they aren't flying blind, either.
