Maybe I need more coffee, but what I am supposed to be celebrating?

What's the point of that post? It's combination public health denialism ("just like influenza and other lower respiratory viruses") that got us into this mess combined with the juvenile brain-dead American exceptionalism we heard last night. Take a look at the graph below, keeping in mind the 38K cases/day number is now up to 57K/day and growing. Please tell me what I'm supposed to take pride in. I'd say America's infection rates are indicative of a broken, 3rd world country, but many developing countries are doing way, way better than we are.

I am saddened for my country but furious at the same time. I haven't seen one single post on this board commenting on the fact that the European Union lifted its external travel restrictions on July 1st...except for Americans (and Russians and Brazilians) because our per capita rates of infection are an order of magnitude higher than theirs. You know who can enter the EU? Citizens of public health, medical science, and innovation powerhouses like Tunisia, Morocco, and Uruguay.

At what point do you stop patting yourself on the back with your big foam USA #1 finger and start asking why we are doing so much worse than the rest of the world?
